KITE SIZE CALCULATOR for

BEGINNER KITEBOARDER

This calculator is made for a beginner level kiteboarders riding a large twintip kiteboard.

Input your weight in kilograms and the wind speed in knots to receive a recommended kite size. The calculator will work with bow, delta and hybrid shape Leading Edge Inflatable kites. The wind range for this calculator is 8 – 30 knots.

BOARD SIZE

The calculated kite size is based on the assumption that a large twintip kiteboard with straps is used for learning and freeriding and matches the rider’s weight:

  • 140 x 42cm – 150 x 45cm  for riders 50-80kg
  • 151 x 43cm – 160 x 50cm  for riders 80kg+

If you are using a smaller kiteboard then use kite size calculator for Independent Rider.

This calculator is provided to help independent level riders to choose correct kite size based on the wind speed, their weight and the size of their twintip kiteboard

Input your weight in kilograms and the wind speed in knots to receive a recommended kite size. The calculator will work with bow, delta and hybrid shape Leading Edge Inflatable kites. The wind range for this calculator is 8 – 40knots.

BOARD SIZE

The calculated kite size is based on the assumption that a mid-size twintip kiteboard with mid-rocker and straps is used for freeriding and matches the rider’s weight:

  • 133 x 40cm for riders 50 -70kg
  • 136 x 41cm for riders 60-80kg
  • 139 x 42cm for riders 80 -90kg
  • 142 x 43cm for riders 90kg+

It is common practice for beginner kiteboarders to ride an oversized (light wind) board as it allows them more stability underfoot as they learn to ride. Whenever using an oversized board in over 15 knots, you will ride a smaller kite than this calculator suggests. If you ride an oversized board for your weight, you should use the kite size calculator for Beginner kiteboarder to find the correct kite size.

BOARD SIZE

There are many possible variations in thickness, chord and aspect ratios of front wings. This calculator assumes the rider is kitefoiling with a low to medium aspect front wing of 750-1000cm2, suitable for beginner kitefoilers.

Based on approximate front wing size for rider weight:

  • 750cm² for 50-75kg rider
  • 875cm² for 70-90kg rider
  • 1000cm² for 85kg+ rider
